Alfred Hitchcock was born in London, England in 1899. He took a job as a title card illustrator for silent films. Soon he learned scripting, editing and art direction. By 1922, he was an assistant director. Hitchcock directed over 50 films. Films such as "Strangers on a Train" (1951), "Rear Window" (1954), "Vertigo," (1958 and "North by Northwest," thrilled audiences. This stamp was issued by the United States Postal Service on August 3, 1998 as part of the Legends of Hollywood Issue series .
